Who Made the First Shotgun Sub-Gauge Tubes?
TCTC instructor and shotgun historian, Terry Hetrick believes the answer may be the Savage Arms “Four-Tenner.” Terry was pleasantly surprised when a friend recently gave him a pair of original Four-Tenners still in excellent working condition.
It is not clear when Savage began making the Four-Tenner, but they can still be found “used” today. The tubes were 12" long in .410 gauge only. They were held in place by O-rings and possessed working extractors. A quick web search reveals a 1964 Savage Arms catalog advertising the Four-Tenner.
If anyone has more detailed information about the history of the Savage Four-Tenner, give Terry a call or post a message on this website’s bulletin board.
