Prelim winner Bill McGuire receives award from Larry Summarell

2005 Tennessee Sporting Clays Championship

Shoot offered hot weather and even hotter competition!

For the 3rd year in a row, the Tennessee Clay Target Complex has been host to the Tennessee Sporting Clays Championship and for the 3rd year in a row, the number of entries set a record high. The large entry included Tennessee’s top shooters as well as a number of the best shooters from out-of-state including Tom Mack and Tommy Browning.

Our special thanks extend to TCTC manager, Larry Summarell and his hardworking staff. The facilities and grounds were groomed and ready. Also, thanks to Greg Jackson and Dan Nelson who spent many hours on tractors bush-hogging the courses.

2005 Tennessee State Champion - Wendell Cherry

TSCA president, Rhonda Barfield, Katherine Maddox, Susan Wall and Rick Archer put in long hours to make the event a success. Thanks to each!

Jason Menke of Briley set the targets, and they were excellent. This was a championship event. For shooters expecting “skeet-in-the-woods,” they should have looked elsewhere. Both courses demanded great skill and concentration.

The 2005 Tennessee State Sporting Clays Champion is Wendell Cherry. Wendell has been crowned the state champion many times in the past. The former US Open champ is on a roll, having already won many big shoots this year. Great job, Wendell!

Greg Jackson was crowned the 2005 Tennessee State Five-Stand Champion. The junior shooter shot a score of 46, while Bill McGuire was very close behind with a score of 45.

Greg Jackson won both the Fitasc and 5-Stand Championship titles, as well as the Junior concurrents

The 2005 Tennessee Fitasc Championship was also won by Greg Jackson. Greg finished with a perfect score on the difficult 2nd parcour.

Bill McGuire took top honors in the preliminary event with a great score of 90. Bill is the manager of Flint Springs Gun Club, which will host next year’s state championship. With Bill McGuire setting the targets, shooters can expect a great championship in 2006.

The management of the Tennessee Clay Target Complex wishes to thank all the competitors, especially those who traveled from other states. This was the largest state sporting championship in our state’s history. Let us hope it is a record that stands only one year!

See you all at Flint Springs, next summer!
