2005 Music City 500 Trap Shoot
Approximately 100 different people attended the two day 2005 Music City 500 Trap Shoot on May 21st and 22nd. Once again the first time attendees were very complimentary about the Tennessee Clay Target Complex’s facilities, the support staff, and the trophy and attendance pin package.
Tennessee Clay Target Complex’s father and son duo of Charles Morrison, Sr. And Charlie Morrison, Jr. were on their “A” game during both days of the event. Between them they won four of the five Championship events (including High Over All and High All Around) plus several class and yardage trophies. Kentucky shooter Dill Muncy won the Championship Handicap event with his score of 97/100.
Charlie, Jr. shot a perfect round of Doubles to defeat his father in the shoot-off for High Over All (HOA). Charlie, Jr. also won a three way shoot-off to become the 2005 Championship Singles champ after posting a 199/200 in the event. This fine young shooter is becoming one of the best Trap shooters in the country. If you haven’t met Charlie, Jr. - you will often find him around the club helping his father and others maintain the automatic Pat traps and other Trap equipment. Be sure to encourage him as he helps with this work and as he continues to improve his shooting. We all wish you GOOD LUCK Charlie (but you could cut us some slack during the shoot-offs).
Seven shooters received yardage punches for their Handicap scores. Buddy Vaughan and TCTC’s Bob Pierce both made the 27 yard line for the first time in their shooting careers. Sub Junior shooter Austin Hendrick earned 1½ yards by winning the preliminary Handicap event with a score of 98 and a score of 96 during the Championship Handicap. Dill Muncy, Vernon Anderson, David Cowan and Charles Morrison, Sr. (honorary punch) all received ½ yard.
Three people broke 199/200 during the Championship Singles on Saturday. Congratulations to Charlie Morrison, Jr, Randy Inman and Brian Bellamy. Six competitors shot 100 straight Singles during the 200 bird Singles event. The shooters were: Peter Streuber, Randy Inman, Charlie Morrison, Jr, Brian Bellamy, Brad Jones and Buddy Vaughan.
Several Scholastic Clay Target Program youth shooters attended and participated in the Music City 500. We offer a special “THANK YOU” to the coaches, schools, parents, young shooters and everyone who provides support for SCTP. The future of our shooting sports depends upon these people. We look forward to seeing you at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex during the Tennessee State State Shoot (June 9 - 12) and the Tennessee SCTP Championships (June 18 - 19).
