Clay Target “Jamboree” Benefits Boy Scouts

Friends of scouting take aim at raising funds and having fun!

The 2nd annual Boy Scouts Sporting Clays Classic came to a very successful conclusion. A large field of shooters arrived at TCTC to support the programs of the Middle Tennessee Council. The Boy Scouts are certainly a most deserving organization.

“Be Prepared” was the motto for the shoot and TCTC manager, Larry Summarell, and his hardworking staff did not disappoint. The course was beautiful and the traps performed well. The targets, set by Larry and Steve Sylis, offered a nice blend of fluff and challenge.

The weather was exceptional. Cooler temperatures and overcast skies reminded everyone that fall had officially arrived.

The Boy Scouts Sporting Clays Classic would not be successful but for the hard work of many, many volunteers. Both Rick Archer and Don Mckinney did an exceptional job handling the myriad of required details. The scorekeepers were very professional and always polite. Our sincere thanks extend to all who volunteered their time.

Event and team sponsors were recognized by signage along the course. Their generosity and financial support of the Boy Scouts is a sound investment in our future leaders.

The two-day shoot included a 100-target sporting clays competition as well as lots of side games. A banquette on Friday night satisfied the heartiest appetite and lots of chances to win great prizes at the drawing.

Junior and sub-junior winners.

Speaking of great prizes, Geoff Pare, CEO of Gamaleil Shooting Supply, provided the merchandise for the event winners. A stack of $400.00 Americase gun cases embossed with the Boy Scout logos were given to many winners. Other prizes included custom shooting vests, Bob Allen accessories and Ogio bags. The top winner was awarded a gorgeous Remington 1100 Sporting.

So who won the 2005 Classic? Senator Doug Jackson (D-Dickson) stumbled into his first tournament victory, which proves that there is hope for us all---even Democrats! In fact, it was such a great event, for such a great cause, that everyone left TCTC feeling like winners.

Sam Hagan and the Killin’ Krew won the team competition.
