2004 Halloween Sporting Clays Shoot Offered Spooky Targets!
Greg Jackson wins the “Big Pumpkin” while Tim Jewell finishes runner-up.
October 30th was a perfect day at the Tennessee Clay Target Complex for the Halloween Sporting Clays Competition. Mild weather, colorful foliage and kite-flying winds greeted the field of 34 shooters.
TCTC manager, Larry Summarell, promised “spooky” targets and he certainly delivered! The challenging course combined with 20 mph gusts to play sinister Halloween tricks at every station. The “treats” came to the shooters who carefully analyzed the complex target lines and focused on each wind-blown bird.
“We look forward to setting the course for the Halloween shoot because anything goes!” said Larry Summarell. “Sporting Clays offers an infinite possibility of targets, so I really enjoy playing creative tricks.”
The Halloween competition pitted the classic struggle of “youth verses experience” as junior shooter, Greg Jackson, faced accomplished competitors many years his senior. When the autumn leaves settled, it was young eyes and reflexes, which carried the day as Greg shot the top score of 90.
“I was very lucky because I missed 6 targets on the last station,” said Greg. “I lost all concentration, but fortunately, I was shooting smoothly on the other stations.”
Runner-up honors went to master-class shooter, Tim Jewell, with a score of 89. Tim is a regular in the winner’s circle at the very best competitions and a frequent competitor at TCTC. Congratulations to all the winners including Dan Nelson, an up and coming junior shooter, who won the Hunter Class. A special thanks to all who participated!
A fantastic Halloween lunch was provided to each of the competitors. The TCTC staff did a professional job tending to every detail of the shoot. The event was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and be with friends while experiencing the most fun possible with a shotgun: sporting clays.
If you shoot clay targets or would like to try it for the first time, come out to the Tennessee Clay Target Complex. Whether skeet, trap, sporting clays, five-stand or Fitasc, TCTC has it all! Did I mention that world-class shooting instruction is available? See you there!
